The committment from NY State to gradually fully fund Foundation Aid over the next 3 years was a huge victory for the children of Rochester. It will mean funding based on need and allow access to more support for many children. We are hugely grateful to all the families, organizations, and politicians who have worked tirelessly to make that happen for over 20 years.
However, the righting of this historical wrong does not mean that the harmful impacts of chronic underfunding will go away overnight. The Rochester City School District (RCSD) was underfunded last year, is underfunded this year, and will continue to struggle to overcome the legacy of underinvestment in buildings and services, even when they are fully funded, in the 2023-24 school year.
Action for Education Equity (AEE) is committed to fundraising to support the children of the RCSD until such a time as a child’s educational resources are not dictated by the wealth of those living in their zipcode.
Since we began fundraising late in 2020 we have raised over $12,000. You can find out how that money benefitted students here.
We have updated our mission to reflect this ongoing need:
Action for Education Equity commits to take action to help students in Rochester, NY thrive by:
– raising critically needed funds for the Rochester City School District (RCSD): and
– bringing awareness to the systemic inequities that are a barrier to student success.
We hope that you will continue to support us in this work.
